It’s hard for an outsider to understand. Someone who stops here on the trail would only pick up bits and pieces. I’ve been wondering why the national media has been focusing on the Faso ads and I’ve come to a number of conclusions.

First, it’s easy journalism. They see an easy story, a race story, and they run with it. Because they honestly don’t have the time or the money to cover the real story. It’s good that Delgado has gotten some attention because of the stories but they aren’t about what’s really going on here. Locals are frustrated. The groundswell of political activity here should be headline news.

Hog roast sunday dinner folks vs. couscous bread alone freaks. The summer home crowd, the college educated, the odd celebrity, the proximity to the city. Freak power in the Catskills, the Jews move out, the hippies move in. Goodbye borscht hello cheap real estate. The city has been overpriced for twenty years now. Some people come to their senses. Since the 70’s people have been coming here to where there’s some fresh air.

After Trump’s election people started paying attention to this seat like they hadn’t in the past. The district never really made any sense but it was one of those things. One of those things that just seem to happen in New York. State politics here never make any sense.

Politics and the internet. Two things that have not mixed well. Social media is one of the newest fronts in war for the 19th. Many fake/troll Twitter accounts seem to pop up. They could be bots at this point but who is behind them? Could be Faso people or RNC operatives. Faso very important to them at this point the wave is cresting.

Now we have Diane Neal, actress and independent candidate. No one knows why she’s running, but she has known ties to various Washington types. A woman to take votes from Delgado? A legitimate voice? She had people handing out flyers to women at the garlic festival? Did she pay for that out of pocket? TBD.
